Lisa Long

(b. Oakland, California, lives in Berlin) is a curator specializing in contemporary and time-based art. Her curatorial practice is artist driven, and seeks to expand how we perceive and understand the world by amplifying transdisciplinary voices from around the globe who use new technologies, moving image, performance, and sound to engage in various forms of storytelling.

Long currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Julia Stoschek Foundation, where she has curated the program since 2018. Recent group exhibitions have examined how artists negotiate experiences of violence (A Fire In My Belly, 2021); envision formal and collective utopias (at dawn, 2022); and call upon the body in relation to the camera to disrupt the status quo (Unbound: Performance as Rupture, 2023). She has also presented several solo exhibitions by artists for the first time in Germany, including Sophia Al-Maria, Meriem Benanni, Stephanie Comilang & Simon Speiser, Rindon Johnson, (LA)HORDE, WangShui, and Young-Jun Tak. Long has written catalog essays and articles for institutions, galleries, and magazines, and has taught Curatorial Studies at Folkwang University in Essen. She has an M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and a B.A. in Art History and Musicology from the University of Cologne.
